Description
GENERAL INFORMATION
This is a specially equipped research vessel built in 1970 in Germany. It is Ice Class and is in active service. The vessel was built as a general research vessel, including fishery and oceanographic research. The propulsion system is of diesel electric type to obtain a low noise level.
In 2003, the vessel had a major overhaul which included basically replacement of all three diesel engines, with new power management system, renewal of the hydraulic system, renewal of insulation, paneling, furniture and fixtures in the mess room, galley, day room, laboratory, wet laboratory and wheelhouse.
The ship is well suited for a variety of multi-function roles including but not limited to support, guard, research and oceanography, and fishery patrol. It is also a good candidate for conversion to an expedition yacht or expedition vessel. There is room to increase accommodations with additional cabins and berths.
